How Beanarchy Was Born: One Coffee Lover's Dream in Malta

By Mina, Founder of Beanarchy

When people ask me why I started Beanarchy, they often assume it's because I couldn't find good coffee in Malta.

That couldn't be further from the truth.

I've called Malta home since 2014, and I've watched the local coffee scene transform since then. Independent cafés have emerged, talented baristas have raised the standard, and more people are discovering the difference between simply drinking coffee and truly appreciating it.

Malta's coffee culture is evolving - and that's something worth celebrating.

So why Beanarchy?

Because I wanted to contribute something different.

More Than Just Another Coffee Brand

Coffee has always been more than a drink to me.

  • It's how conversations begin.

  • It's where ideas are born.

  • It's what brings strangers together.

Some of my best memories, biggest decisions and most meaningful conversations have happened over a cup of coffee.

Eventually, I realised I didn't just want to enjoy great coffee - I wanted to create an experience around it.

That's how Beanarchy started.

Not as another café.

Not as another coffee bike.

But as a brand built around creativity, community and exceptional coffee.

Why the Name "Beanarchy"?

The name combines two words:

Bean – because everything starts with coffee.

Anarchy – not in the political sense, but in the sense of questioning the ordinary.

For us, Beanarchy means challenging expectations.

Coffee doesn't have to be rushed.

Coffee doesn't have to be ordinary.

Coffee can be beautiful, creative and memorable.

It's about doing things differently - with purpose.

Why a Coffee Bike?

Before opening a permanent space, I wanted Beanarchy to meet people where they already are.

  • Markets

  • Festivals

  • Corporate events

  • Weddings

  • Community gatherings

A coffee bike gives us the freedom to bring specialty coffee into places where people might not expect it. It creates conversations. People stop. They ask questions. They discover new flavours.

And that's exactly what Beanarchy is about.

Building More Than Coffee

From the beginning, I knew Beanarchy would become more than serving drinks.

We're already exploring collaborations with local makers, designers and artists because I believe coffee should support creativity.

That includes ideas like:

  • limited-edition artist espresso cups

  • handcrafted serving boards inspired by local architecture

  • collectible seasonal releases

  • collaborations with Maltese artisans

  • gifts that tell a story, not just fill a box

Every collaboration adds another chapter to the Beanarchy story.

Looking Ahead: The Beanarchy Hub

The coffee bike is only the beginning.

My long-term vision is something much bigger.

One day, I'd love to create the Beanarchy Hub - a space where coffee and creativity come together.

A place where people can work, learn, create and connect. A place where coffee becomes the catalyst for collaboration. Because some of the best ideas don't happen in meeting rooms. They happen around a coffee table.

… but more on that later ;-)

Why Malta?

Malta is a country full of talent.

  • Artists

  • Designers

  • Entrepreneurs

  • Craftspeople

  • Innovators

Beanarchy exists because I believe these worlds should collide more often. If a cup of coffee can introduce two people who end up building something together, then we've done more than serve a drink. We've created a connection.

This Is Just the Beginning

Beanarchy isn't about becoming the biggest coffee company. It's about becoming a brand people genuinely enjoy being part of.

Whether you're stopping by the coffee bike for your morning flat white, collecting one of our limited releases or joining us at a future workshop, you're helping shape what Beanarchy becomes.

We're building this one cup, one conversation and one idea at a time.

And honestly?

We're just getting started.
